Take a look at custom tail lights You may also be interested in some video shots. These were done by putting a television transmitter on my bike while racing.  This was done as part of my other hobby, amateur radio. Those shots are on my Amateur Television Page or perhaps you want to go to my my Main Page.

Sign up for emails with the latest motorcycle racing videos and news.  Check the box for "Motorcycle Racing Videos".  For example when we videotape interviews in pit lane at Daytona, or when we do live broadcasts from the track, the video and the news will be sent to your email.

Most of these images are CLICKABLE for full size high resolution images, click the "thumbnail image".  I am slowly copying my antique video tapes over to DVD and onto the internet.  See me race Speedway at Paducah,Kentucky here.  Video from an on-bike-camera at St Louis International Raceway is available here.

Getting too old to race, so now I take stills and shoot videos of lots of 'modern day' motorcycle racing videos.  (But I am not in them)  Look for the link "my videos" or "my pictures" and click them.

1996 Buell Lightning
Year 2000 Florida Region Amateur Heavyweight Sportsman Champion !

Another sponsor is RV Services Unlimited south of Punta Gorda. I got to know these guys after they put a whole new roof (ceiling, everything) on my 1973 Dodge motorhome.

For a few years I rode my RZ350 in the Amateur Lightweight Sportsman class and the Buell in Heavyweight Sportsman. For more information check out the Championship Cup Series   These days I only do hare scrambles.

This shot was taken 1987 while racing in the rain at Indianapolis Raceway Park (Clermont, Indiana). The bike is a 1984 Yamaha RZ350 which I still have It is a 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine. I liked racing in the rain because the reduced traction meant total weight did not matter. See, I am a little over 105 kg and nearly 2 m tall and most guys I raced against were around 55 to 60 kg and 1.6 m tall.

And lately I have done a little drag racing. Mostly with the 1996 Buell Lightning.  These are from year 2001 near Bradenton, Florida.  These images are also clickable

Alan racing speedway in Jonesboro, Pennsylvania, 1988. 500 cc single cylinder methanol burning Jawa. NO BRAKES. No suspension. No gearbox. 0-60 in less than 3 seconds typical in dirt. The bike is 90 kg and 44 kw engine (180 pounds and 66 hp for those that use the form of measurement that no one else in the world uses.) This was a 3/16 mile dirt track at night. This is the type of bike the rest of the world uses for "dirt track racing" but in north America, we call it Speedway racing. Boy, this was FUN! This picture does not give you an idea what SPEEDWAY is really about.   See me race Speedway at Paducah,Kentucky here.

B&W photo of 2 speedway racers in action.

Here is a shot of a couple of guys that are a LOT better than I ever dreamed I would be.  This shot is of Lance King and Peter Collins. The picture is from a book called "Mike Patrick's World of Speedway" by Mike Patrick. Sterling Publishing Company, Inc. 2 Park Avenue, NY 10016

For more information try a site Exeter Falcons team . That site is all about a speedway racing team in Exeter, U.K. It also has tons of good links on speedway.

Here arephoto I took of Tammy Kirk at DuQuoin Mile a few "guys" going into turn 1 on the DuQuoin mile in 1984.  Notice that the bottom side of the chain is slack. This shows that they are "on the gas" at this point, not on the brake.  That's a WOMAN on the outside rubbing elbows. AMA Flat Track Racer Tammy Kirk from Dalton, Georgia was national number 57.

Chopper John's wife on my bikeHere is a shot of a lady on my Buell S-1 Lightning. Bike was dirty, the woman was clean ! I made the tailight for myself and make them for friends.

This is my 1974-ish Jawa Speedway Bike.  I bought this used in not so good looking condition.  Abit of work got it in shape here.  Raced this for years and enjoyed every second of it.
This is the 4 valve head speedway bike that is in the picture of me racing above.  This is dual overhead chain driven cam.  If you take off the seat and the air cleaner, open the throttle and turn the rear wheel, you can see right past the intake vale to the piston. These bikes have "total-loss" oil systems. The oil is kept in the frame (2valve bike) or in a small plastic jug (4 valve bike) and a low pressure oil pump sends the oil to the engine. After the oil does its job and falls to the bottom of the crankcase, it is spit out onto the track out the bottom of the engine. On the rear wheel is a fiberglass disk.  This is a nice place to put some nice guys name. In this case, Cycletech located 220 South Washington Ave, Carbondale Illinois 618-549-0531.
Looking tired at Paducah Speedway
At the Marion, Illinois Kart track.  That's John Gambill in red/white. John's on a "2 valve" pushrod Jawa and I am on my "4 valve" overhead cam.
Here is a shot of Todd Booten at the Marion, Illinois short track put on by the Southern Illinois Dirt Riders (a member of the West Kentucky Competition Riders Association). He got a bad start at the green flag, so one way to deal with that is to lay the bike down in the first turn and pretend to be hurt or stunned and hope that the race is stopped and re-started.  This gives the racer another chance at a good start at the green flag. This is why I believe ALL types of races should put those that caused the restart on the back line for the restart.
Hey....feet up and "sideways" again.  Jonesboro, Pennsylvania.
I did want to brag here a little and show that I can really go feet-up sideways.
Lined up for the start of the open class, Marion, Illinois Short Track, May 11, 1987. That's 81 Byron Ward, National # 84 expert Mike Ragan, 56 Charles Southgate Jr., 84d Reverend Bill Jackson on my bike, 35b Todd Booten, 76 Denny Williams, 32p Dallas Mayer.

Some pictures from Paducah Short Track.  We raced in Paducah, Kentucky a LOT. I have lots and lots of pictures of bikes, 4 wheelers and those dang 3 wheelers. If you raced there, tell me and I will look through BOXES of pictures to see what I can find. For instance, Jackie Brown, #53 here, found this web page and I found a couple of pictures of him and Scot Lamb in there. More will be posted soon.
